qXport is a flexible and reliable program that has been optimized for converting Word files into QuarkXPress and InDesign CS files. It can also be used for exporting to simple XML or plain text.

qXport attempts to retain the Word structures which are also available in QuarkXPress and InDesign while at the same time cleaning up the Word files.

qXport 3 highlights
  NEW! Completely new design:
qXport 3 now delivers better cross-platform compatibility and
  significantly improved performance
NEW! Catering to panthers and tigers:
qXport3 is now available in a native Mac OS X version
(Panther- and Tiger-compatible), along with Windows (98-XP)
and classic Mac OS 9 versions

  NEW! Even more
  flexibility:

  qXport 3 can now be
  used with MS Word
  97-2004 (Win/Mac)
  for export to
  QuarkXPress 3-6
  (Win/Mac) and
  InDesign 3
  (Win/Mac)

  NEW! Native InDesign CS support:
qXport 3 has finally optimized the output to InDesign CS, providing
native InDesign CS tags and support for index tags and tables
  NEW! Parameter sets:
Unlimited number of parameter sets simplify handling of the
numerous conversion and export options available
  NEW! Integrated font replacement:
Using individually definable tables, you can replace fonts during conversion –
this is useful, e.g., for typesetting in foreign languages that do not use Latin fonts.

  NEW! Unicode support:
qXport 3 automatically adapts character codes for typesetting in
languages such as Greek, Polish and Cyrillic with XPress

With qXport

  NEW! Automated optimization:
For example, bolding is automatically removed from symbol fonts.

NEW! Export to XML and plain text:
qXport offers simple XML export with paragraph style sheets
representing individual paragraph tags. Plain text is of interest if you want to
remove all of the original formatting information.

advantages
Index: Index tags for generation of indexes are recognized
  (standard XPress filter ignores them)
Style sheets: qXport only imports style sheets that are used in the
  Word document
Text fields: qXport recognizes text in text fields (many other converters do not)
Page breaks: Because page breaks result in jumping between frames,
  qXport ignores them
Batch processing: Any number of Word files can be converted in one go
Tables: qXport recognizes and converts native tables (for InDesign CS)
or converts columns into tabs (for QuarkXPress – unfortunately,
XPress does not recognize table tags)
Consistency: qXport generates consistent, high-quality output with any
of the supported Quark versions, Word versions or operating systems
Support: Contact support@bitmix.de for assistance if a conversion
does not work as planned or has errors. Often we can fix the problem quickly
